Blessings in Disguise

Sometimes, in retrospect, it’s easy to see that actually it’s not the actual event that is important but the reason behind it happening. Reigniting the creativity within by committing to following through for a whole set of different reasons, can be a blessing in disguise!

I’ve been thinking for a while that I need to move some of my paintings so I have decided to have a painting sale. This is kind of a BIG decision for me as the last time I held a solo exhibition was at The Arts Centre of Christchurch in 1999! Wow - that’s 20 years ago! In 2003, I did have an exhibition of several small works, and then for a time when I was completing my Master’s degree, I moved away from painting and into documentary making creating Project Happiness: The Lived Experience in 2010. I returned to painting in 2013 with my ‘Soul’ painting that I completed in 2015 and flared up again, reigniting my creativity with painting again!

I paint intuitively, which for me means I connect and respond directly to my source energy and energetic vibration at the time of painting. I never set out to paint ‘something’, I just paint what turns up. Energetic vibrations fluctuate, depending on emotions and events that have/are happening and these are what I paint. This is why sometimes a painting that begins its life as one thing totally transfigures into something entirely different before it is completed. After all, transfiguration is a change in consciousness so when energy shifts so does the consciousness of the experience.

I love my paintings and feel a strong resonance with each piece. Each has a special meaning and has retrospective interpretation and relativity, which means I know why I’ve painted what I painted after I have painted it. My works are never finished until they are signed and can sometimes sit in my studio for several years after they are begun, until I pull them out, rework them, and only when they are finished do I sign them and acknowledge their completion. I then like to hang them down the ‘spine’ of our home! The ‘spine’ is pretty full at the moment and with new paintings still being produced the time has come for some shifting/movement to happen.

I use my artworks throughout all of my work, always linking the meanings to connect the threads with the deeper significance of the artwork.

For example, when I was creating You-phoria: The Art of Authenticity, I connected every artwork used to the content and meaning of the chapter, so that each image linked and related to the overarching vision and philosophy to obtain an authentic and seamless feel and fit.

In my experience, I have found that different paintings resonate with different people. If you have resonated with an image of my artwork within You-phoria or from a BLOG and feel a connection with an artwork or its meaning, then now could be your opportunity to become the owner of the work.

Images and information of the artworks available for purchase can be found here.

So, as you can tell, my decision to have a painting sale not only got me completing paintings, but enabled me to thrive whilst doing it, and through this painting sale process, feel the absolute joy of immersing myself in painting again, reigniting my creativity through paint and that’s what I’d call a blessing in disguise!

Have you ever found that something you did because you thought you needed to ended up with a way different set of outcomes?

I’d love to hear your blessing in disguise story in the comments…

Have a wonderful day,

In joy,
